Winner of the AGC Alabama 2012 New Building Construction, the Tuscaloosa Municipal Outdoor Performing Arts Venue (Amphitheater) is to be considered a “showcase” of the Riverfront revitalization.
The facility includes: a stage, a ticket office, two restroom facility buildings with 70 toilets each, two concession stands, a commissary, a building that houses a dining hall and dressing rooms for the entertainers, a VIP area for season ticket holders, and fixed seating that can accommodate approximately 7,400 patrons. In total, there are eight buildings on the site that are approximately 84,493 square feet.
The chosen site for the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater overlooks the Black Warrior River, which offers a beautiful setting for the community, as well as out of town guests. However, this site was previously a landfill, presenting unique challenges from the very beginning. Through excellence in completion of this project, all schedules were met or exceeded and brought in below budget. The project faced natural obstacles, such as numerous weather related delays, but the project was turned over to the Owner, the City of Tuscaloosa, with complete satisfaction.
